Unfortunately, two incumbents running for re-election—Robert Duell, Texas Senator District 2, and Tommy Merritt, Texas Senator District 7—are unable to attend. Nor will Duell’s challenger, Sharon Russell, attend. 

 

Why No Empty Chairs? The League of Women Voters’ non-partisan policy dictates that no single candidate can appear on an LWV-sponsored forum or debate without the opponent present. A candidate in a contested race who appears alone has the distinct advantage of presenting partisan views and comments without challenge.

Unopposed candidates are welcome to attend the forum and may be introduced and may also take the opportunity to speak to voters before the forum begins and after it concludes.
