2019 Women's Equality Day

Texas women were ahead of the pack: we got the vote in 1919, a year before the women in many of the US states. August 23 we will celebrate 100 years of that right and recognize the hard-won victory with good food, good libations, a cash bar, a silent auction, and great speakers. The League leaders hope to raise awareness in the community of the importance of using the right to vote and to recognize those patriots in the community who are helping to Make Democracy Work.

The event recognized three groups and two individuals for their work registering and involving voters, honoring them with the League’s Making Democracy Work award. We also recognized three 50-year members of the League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County. A unique silent auction fund raiser was part of the event.
